A UK professional services firm with 50 geographically dispersed offices was running legacy MPLS circuits across all sites. Monthly WAN costs were escalating, circuit lead times for new locations were measured in months, and the existing firewall estate was approaching end-of-life. The business needed to modernise its wide area network without disrupting day-to-day operations across any site.

THE TRIGGER

A planned office expansion exposed the limitations of the MPLS-only approach — new circuit provisioning was taking 90+ days per site, and the per-site cost of the legacy WAN was no longer justifiable. The organisation needed a modern SD-WAN architecture that could use commodity broadband and 4G/5G failover while maintaining the security and reliability of the existing infrastructure.

OUR APPROACH

RUPE Networks designed and delivered a Fortinet SD-WAN solution across all 50 sites. The deployment included:

• FortiGate next-generation firewalls at every site with unified SD-WAN policy
• Centralised management via FortiManager for consistent policy deployment
• Hub-and-spoke topology with dual-WAN (broadband primary, 4G failover) at branch sites
• Phased cutover — 8-10 sites per week, coordinated with local site contacts
• Full as-built documentation and handover pack for every site
